Official Pramac PMD 5050S specifications
The table separates the current product page from the series catalogue. Pramac does not expose every specification in one place, and the catalogue edition may not match every unit still offered for sale.

Three-phase power and the single-phase limit
Do not choose this generator from the “5050” model name or its 4,000 W maximum rating alone. Pramac publishes 3,600 W rated and 4,000 W maximum for three-phase output. For a single-phase outlet, the series brochure lists 1,200 W rated and 1,330 W maximum. A 230 V load that needs more than this limit is not covered because the generator has a 3,600 W three-phase rating.
Before connecting pumps, compressors, tools or home appliances, compare each load’s running power with its starting surge. For three-phase loads, also confirm how the load must be balanced across phases and the rating of each outlet. Total alternator power cannot be assigned freely to one phase.
The current product page lists 400 V and three phases; the series brochure also details 230/400 V and separate single-phase figures. Do not combine these views as if they described every outlet on one unit. Ask for a clear photo of the rating plate, the complete model code, panel configuration and manual for the exact batch.
If your main requirement is 230 V single-phase output, compare a model whose datasheet states the required single-phase rated power. The diesel generator selection guide explains how to calculate loads and distinguish service rating, voltage and phase.
The 50 Hz rating also matters. A nameplate with the right voltage does not by itself prove that a 60 Hz appliance or installation is compatible. Check frequency, voltage, phase arrangement and connection requirements for both the generator and each load. Do not use an imported product listing as a substitute for the manufacturer’s documentation for your region.
Published tank capacity and runtime
The catalogue lists a 14.5 L tank and 11.3 hours of runtime at 50% load for the PMD 5050S. That is a manufacturer reference for the stated test condition, not a promise of 11.3 hours with any connected appliance. Actual runtime changes with load, engine condition, temperature, fuel and maintenance.
Estimate your needs from the backup hours and simultaneous load you actually expect. Do not extrapolate runtime at full load by simply multiplying or dividing the 50% figure; you need the model’s fuel-consumption curve. Check the maintenance intervals and storage procedure in the exact manual as well.
The published dry weight of 161 kg and dimensions of 910 × 518 × 682 mm affect access, transport and placement. Wheels do not make it a light unit to move by hand over stairs or uneven ground.
PMD 5050S versus PMD 5000S
The difference between these references is more than a letter or a small power step. The manufacturer’s table assigns different outputs to each model; using the 5000S figures to assess the 5050S may leave a single-phase load without enough power.
| 50 Hz catalogue item | PMD 5050S | PMD 5000S |
|---|---|---|
| Rated / maximum three-phase output | 3,600 / 4,000 W | Not listed |
| Rated / maximum single-phase output | 1,200 / 1,330 W | 4,500 / 5,000 W |
| Catalogue voltage | 230 / 400 V | 230 V |
This comparison transcribes the catalogue edition consulted; it does not confirm the outlets on a specific unit or the revision a seller has in stock. Check the rating plate and the serial-number-specific manual before purchase.
Suitable uses and limitations
Pramac describes the PMD range as portable diesel backup generators for residential use. The PMD 5050S may suit a backup application when the equipment requires compatible three-phase output and loads remain within the stated service rating. Its published specification alone does not prove that it is suitable for continuous operation, an industrial installation, an entire home or a particular electrical panel.
Look for another configuration if your appliances need more than 1,200 W rated on single-phase output, if you need a supply other than 400 V/50 Hz three-phase, or if phase balance cannot be confirmed. Do not compare it directly with the PMD 5000S: despite similar names, the brochure gives that model much higher single-phase output and no matching three-phase output.
Use the diesel generator selection guide to compare ratings and installation needs. Our gasoline generator and dual-fuel generator guides cover different fuel types; their model specifications do not apply to this diesel set.
This guide covers the manufacturer’s 50 Hz version. If a seller offers a unit for a different grid or region, ask for that exact variant’s documentation and local service terms. The 230/400 V entry in the catalogue is not a blanket approval to connect any 230 V or 400 V equipment.
Specifications not confirmed by the sources
The Pramac product page and catalogue used for this guide do not verify the engine brand and model, displacement, a comparable noise level, current retail price or warranty terms for a particular unit. They also do not justify a fixed service life or universal maintenance intervals for the PMD 5050S.
For that reason, this page does not repeat noise figures, user ratings, lifespan promises, an engine brand from a different unit or an old marketplace price. If a seller lists any of these details, ask for documentation that identifies the same version and revision. Follow the manual supplied for the serial number for service instructions.
The catalogue references an ATS connector and an optional accessory; it does not show that the transfer switch, wiring or commissioning are included in every offer. Verify each item before comparing quotations.
ATS, installation and safety
Pramac mentions an ATS connector, while the series brochure describes the transfer switch as optional. Before budgeting, confirm whether the unit includes the interface, which accessory it needs and whether it is compatible with the planned electrical panel. Never connect a generator to a household outlet to energize home wiring.
Protective devices, grounding, grid transfer, neutral configuration and phase balancing depend on the installation and local rules. Have a qualified electrician size and install a fixed connection. AVR describes the voltage regulation system; it does not certify compatibility with every electronic device.
A combustion generator produces carbon monoxide. Use it outdoors and follow its manual, away from doors, windows and air intakes. Never run it in a home, garage, shed or partly enclosed space, even if ventilated. Follow the manufacturer’s clearances and exhaust direction.
What to check before buying
- Request a readable rating-plate photo showing PMD 5050S, 50 Hz, voltage and phases.
- Ask for the manual matching the serial number and confirm outlet types and power limits.
- Calculate the rated and starting power of loads that will run at the same time.
- Confirm whether the ATS and required wiring are included or sold separately.
- Check transport and placement for 161 kg, ventilation, exhaust, fuel and service support.
- Request a current quotation and warranty terms from an authorised seller; no current Amazon offer or price has been verified for this review.
The documentation supports a model-specific guide and its output limits; it does not support calling the generator “the best”, assigning it a user rating or recommending a purchase by price. You can also compare dual-fuel generators if a different fuel setup better fits the intended use.
